Question:
Can I splice the top plates if I can’t find lumber long enough to build a shed?
Answer:
Double top plates can be spliced as long as the splices are offset by 48 inches.
The tall barn and deluxe gable shed plans both use double top plates. That’s why they include longer sizes. The gable and single slope shed plans use a single top plate therefore you can’t splice it. You can only build it up to the length of the longest board you can find.
Don’t worry about where the bottom plate splice falls because it will be tied into the floor.
